Is this a blog?
04 Oct

Oh what fun!

According the experts ( apparently just those who’ve  successfully taken action ) blogging needs a strategy,  a focused topic. Yeah. Who knew? You won’t find that here yet. The closest you’ll get is learning what holds my interest at the moment. I do have some long-term plans for where I want this blog to go, but we’re a long way from there. Considering the progress I’m making and the time invested, it seems to be getting longer. Anyway here is a short list of things that have my attention at the moment ( Most are for fun. )

Peanut Butter Plus One

I’m taking the PB+1 Challenge started by some friends. For no particular reason — other than fun — I’m choosing to have a peanut butter sandwich, plus one other ingredient, for the whole month of October. My invitation to the party came a day late, so I’m only two days into it ( You can safely ignore this post’s date. I’m up really, really late so it’s still the 3rd for me ). I console myself knowing I ate several spoonfuls of peanut butter while drinking coffee on day 1.  So . . .

  • Day 1: peanut butter plus coffee ( It probably doesn’t count because everything is ‘plus coffee’ with me )
  • Day 2: peanut butter sandwich with jalapeños!! It was acutally quite delicious and a lot like eating a bag of hot peanuts, except the texture was different of course. I rounded out  this meal with some leftover stir-fry two hours later. Waiting for the round-out was probably a mistake; the sandwich itself made a surprisingly fast and painful exit a short 4 hours later. I don’t usually get that with jalapeños. Hmmmmm
  • Day 3: peanut butter sandwich plus bacon. One word: YUMMMMM!!

I’ll try to keep everyone updated on my progress as this goes along.

31 days of Halloween

First, “31 days of Halloween”on ::gag:: SyFy ::gag:: (it should still be SciFi!!!), “13 days of Halloween”on the family Channel, and other similar themes this time of year, sounds like I’m excited about the string of horror movies coming out on various channels this month. Well I am, but that isn’t the focus for this post, but I thought I should mention it, because you’ll probably want to keep your eye out for some of those. It’s OK; You can thank me later.

There are at least a few blogging circles/clubs/rings/whatever they’re called, out right now all dedicated to blogging everyday in October about Halloween. The one that caught my eye is “Countdown To Halloween” I’ve seen a couple of really interesting things so far. One guy is blogging the 31 scariest monsters from the ’80’s cartoon version of GhostBusters for example (I love cartoons and I liked Ghostbusters, but I don’t remember that one). Also, I just noticed Skull-A-Day is participating. I like that site, and have waaay before it was Halloween. I’d like to participate in these festivities as well. I probably will to the extent my time allows. I’m thinking about Halloween themed poserdoodles.  Of course, that brings me to my third and primary interest at the moment.  .  .

This Blog!

So far I’ve tested and installed 3 gallery plugins. I’ve removed all 3 of them, and then re-installed the last ( Lazyest-gallery ). It is closest to offering the options the I’m looking for. Ultimately I think I’m going to have to roll my own to get what I want. The front end is functionally great. The backend is a pain to use. My next favorite choice ( NextGen gallery ) was a joy to use on the backend, but didn’t offer the features I wanted for presentation, namely per-picture comments. Niether offers an option to let me manually upload a thumnail. Both offer the ultimate convenience of generating those on the fly. NextGen gallery will even let me edit it in-browser with a flash plugin. That’s cool! Unfortunately the php GD library doesn’t like any of the jpegs taken with my Blackberry and breaks both plugins. Who knows what that’s about?

So anyway, without a proper gallery, it’s a little difficult to focus on the whole 31 days of Halloween poserdoodles idea. Part of the goal as I said earlier is to make a place I’m comfortable using. Hassles aren’t comfortable. I’m tired of excuses though, so I’ll put up with a few hassles, and put up with some up-front discomfort to get where I want to be.
